What is Local Hack Day?

Join us on December 2nd, 2018 for MLH's Local Hack Day, a global hackathon and celebration of learning, building, and sharing! Whether you're a first timer who is learning to program or you go to hackathons every weekend, everyone is welcome to participate!

This is MLH's 5th year organizing Local Hack Day. In 2017, the event brought out more than 6,000 participants across 34 countries and 236 cities around the world. This year's event is shaping up to be the biggest one yet!

What is a hackathon?

Hackathons are learning focused invention marathons where participants dream up fun, interesting projects and work in small teams to bring them to life over the course of the event.

When you're not working on your project, there are plenty of other things to do like attending educational workshops, making friends, or showing off what you're learning or building. At Local Hack Day you can do these with other participants at your location or participants around the world at other locations!

Additional Information

Food and Snacks

We'll be providing refreshments twice during the day along with tea/coffee to keep your creative juices flowing! However, for lunch, you may either bring yours to the venue or purchase from the cafeteria at the venue. Either way, we recommend going easy on the lunch lest you feel sleepy during hackathon!

Speakers and workshops

We'll be joined by experts from the industry as well as ex-GSoCers! Whether it is the secret to industry success or getting started with open source contributions, our speakers will be there to share their knowledge and wisdom. Be it environment setup, bug fixes or conceptual clarity, our experts would be there to help you.

We would be having a hackathon with different categories for a given problem statement. You'll be given the problem statement on the venue and you can start hacking at 9:30 after the opening ceremony and will continue throughout the day.
You are free to make teams or participate individually, but that would be decided on the day of the Hack depending on the number of people who turn up. Either way, top 3 participants would receive winning certificates from the MLH and other exciting goodies.

General info

We encourage participants to build something and share it with the community. On the day you would receive the links for Devpost where you can share what you have built with the community. Community building, knowledge sharing and collaborative learning are the essence of this event.
