What is Local Hack Day?

Local Hack Day: Learn is a global week-long conference that you can share with your community. You can pick up the new skills you need by participating in workshops and talks with a community around the world. Over the course of 12 hours, attendees will experience a series of workshops where they’ll learn skills such as publishing their first website using AWS, sending their first SMS with Twilio, and building their first game in Unity. This is an event for all skill levels, from beginners to the most veteran developers. Workshop attendees will learn skills that they can apply in their projects, schoolwork, job, and beyond.

What is LEARN DAY?

Learn Day is a global day-long conference that allows hackers from around the world to pick up new skills and show off how much you’ve learned on a leaderboard. Use the week leading up to attend workshops and talks, earn points, and secure swag for you and your community. We’ve separated each day with tracks to ensure there’s workshops that fit your interests. Make sure to tune in for the conference to hear from seasoned developers from companies such as GitHub, Microsoft, DataStax, and more.


Oct 18 (Sun)

Get started with Local Hack Day: Learn by participating in workshops which are Beginner focused! Hackers on this day will be introduced to Git and Python, as well as learn How to Build & Deploy Your First Website!

Oct 19 (Mon)

Learn how to fully utilize and make your own apps for your Internet of Things and smart home devices!. We’ll be running workshops for both Alexa and Google Home, and you don’t even need to own either to participate!

Oct 20 (Tues)

Jump into the world of Blockchain! No matter what your previous knowledge is, we’ll explain it all from cryptocurrency to distributed applications to sidechains. Learn how to make applications for three of the worlds largest blockchain networks, Ark.io, ICON, and Horizen.

Oct 21 (Wed)

This day is all about Professional Development. Whether you’re wondering how to take your hack to the next step, find your next job, or expand your network, we got you covered!

Oct 22 (Thurs)

Learn how to create Secure applications with Digital Ocean, get hands on experience with cybersecurity technology, and test your knowledge with our capture the flag sessions, both beginner and advanced hackers are welcome.

Oct 23 (Fri)

Learn all about Web Development from the front end to the back end, and everywhere in between. We will cover full stack development and API development with IBM Z.

Oct 24 (Sat)

The big day! Participate in as many workshops as you can, across all different interests, and secure you and your guild a spot on our leaderboard. We’ll have programming all day, so make sure you tune in and unlock as much free swag as you can!

Who can attend Local Hack Day?

Everyone is welcome to participate in Local Hack Day regardless of experience level, student status, or age.

What if I can't code?

Everyone is welcome at Local Hack Day regardless of their coding experience. Many participants use Local Hack Day as an opportunity to learn some coding skills and network with other beginners. In fact, we have programming and workshops specifically for hackers just starting out!

Is there a code of conduct?

We want to make sure that MLH Local Hack Day events create a safe and welcoming environment for attendees and organizers. For this reason the MLH Code of Conduct should be followed throughout the duration of each event.

Who organizes Local Hack Day?

Local Hack Day is organized by Major League Hacking (MLH). MLH is the official global hacker community.

How much does it cost?

It's free to participate in MLH's Local Hack Day. Grab your laptop and join the fun activities and workshops.
