Event details

Local Hack Day: Share is a global online demo day to highlight the accomplishments of your community. Put the final touches on your projects and develop your communication skills by participating is this worldwide demo day. Over the course of 12 hours attendees will spend time hacking, writing, and presenting about the things they learned and built during the last year. At the end of the event, they’ll add their projects to their portfolios to share with the world. This is an event for all skill levels, from beginners to the most veteran developers.

  • Local Hack Day is open to anyone and everyone part of the worldwide hacker community.
  • The online event will have channels for each community participating.
  • "Share Day" events in April are focused on sharing your progress.

Why “Share”?

We have themed Local Hack Day after “Learn, Build, Share”, the three stages in developing new skills. Learn Day was focused on workshops and learning new skills. Build Day was focused on creating projects and building. Finally, Share Day on April 11th will be focused on sharing what you’ve learned and demoing your projects. It will include demos and project showcases on top of workshops and hacking.

Tips for a Great Online Event

You may already know what to expect with Local Hack Day events. Still, the online-only format may be a little different than what you are used to. Here are some of our quick tips for participating in an online-only event.

  • Find a team - We’ve seen that getting participants to work together in teams is harder online than in person. Try to connect with others before starting on a project. This is a great opportunity to collaborate with people that seem to be working on similar ideas.

  • Join activities - We want to make room for spontaneous connections and fun activities at Local Hack Day. You should consider participating in these and you can find them available on Discord.

  • Participate in workshops - We will be broadcasting workshops throughout Local Hack Day on April 11th. We encourage you to participate in these digital workshops, asking any questions that you may have and talking with mentors and workshop leaders. The workshop schedule will be available shortly.

  • Share a demo! - The theme for this Local Hack Day is Share! We want to see what participants are working on and building. We will ask for submissions of demos throughout the event. Feel free to encourage participants to share their progress, especially if you’ve interacted with them throughout the event.

Have a question?

You can ask any questions you have in the #ask-mlh channel in Discord. You can also email the MLH team at localhackday@mlh.io.

We are here to make sure everyone has a good experience. Reach out with questions or concerns you may have. Happy Hacking!

Local Hack Day would not be possible without the support of an amazing group of sponsors & partners.
